We are proud to be chosen as one of the anchor businesses of Niles by the WTTW Chicago News – Channel 11.
On Feb 10th 2022, Mr. Nick Blumberg – Producer/Reporter of the WTTW News / Chicago, Ms. Acacia Hernández and their team visited our Niles location. Vital information about the services we offer was telecasted in the evening news the same day. UMAS / MAFS has been providing services to the seniors for the past 30 years with 14 different locations throughout the Chicagoland area. Our Niles location at 9015 N. Milwaukee Avenue has been serving the seniors for more than 20 years. The services for that area were first started in DesPlaines in 1992 and then moved to Niles.
A proud moment for us indeed! Dr. Santosh Kumar Founding Executive Director of UMAS/MAFS was interviewed by Mr. Nick Blumberg where she explained about the services we offer, InHome Care, Adult Day care Services and many more. She said the seniors who are mainly from the south Asian community, often felt isolated after moving to the United States. To combat this isolation, Mrs. Kumar through her organizations created “India” right here in the US for the seniors, by speaking their languages, offering ethnic homecooked fresh food, celebrating their festivals and to sum up “making them feel at home and happy”.
In the news they also spoke about UMAS/MAFS participating in a program to Vaccinate more than 500 people during the pandemic. During this time, fresh meals were delivered to the seniors while making sure they are keeping well. Seniors were afraid during the pandemic. However, while still being cautious, the Adult Day Care Program offered the seniors independence to come to the locations to mingle and dance their way into their 80s and 90s! During the broadcast they also mentioned about our 96-year-old senior who was up and going, rejoicing and dancing with her fellow seniors!
UMAS/MAFS sincerely Thanks WTTW Chicago for paying a visit to our Niles location and has extended the invitation for them to visit our other state of the art locations especially the one in Devon Avenue in Chicago!
