MAFS attended the Spotlight on Service Awards ceremony, on Wednesday, May 10th, at the Illinois State Library, Springfield. The event was sponsored by Secretary of State and State Librarian, Alexi Giannoulias – funders of MAFS Adult Literacy Program. MAFS program participant Mrs. Balwant Bhardwaj was selected as one of ten exemplary volunteer tutors and Nirmalaben Bavaria as one of ten outstanding adult learners from amongst others across the State.   They were honored by the Secretary of State and received a commemorative plaque for their achievements.  There were 20 awardees in total, representing different literacy programs from all over Illinois, funded by the State Librarian. The awardees shared their story and experiences and how learning English has improved their life in America. It was truly very inspiring! The event was very well organized, and attendees took back memories of a lifetime with them.
