Our Story

33 Years of Service. One Mission.

Who We Are

Metropolitan Asian Family Services (MAFS) has been serving immigrant communities across Illinois since 1992.

For more than three decades, we have provided culturally responsive social services that help individuals and families navigate life in the United States with dignity, stability, and independence.

Our Mission

Serving Immigrant Communities with Compassion and Integrity

MAFS provides comprehensive and integrated social services to immigrant populations from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, the Middle East, and Europe. Our work focuses on educating, guiding, assisting, and empowering individuals and families so they can become productive members of their communities

A Legacy of Impact

Transforming Lives Through Compassionate Service

Since our founding, MAFS has supported thousands of individuals each year through programs in:

Nutrition & Food Security

Public Benefits Assistance

Adult Literacy & Education

Immigration & Citizenship Support

Health Research & Community Education

Mental Health & Senior Services

These programs respond directly to the challenges immigrant families face, including language barriers, food insecurity, health disparities, and access to public resources.

Nutrition Program

Healthy eating supports healthy aging. Our nutrition programs promote better food choices, education, and access to nutritious meals in our community.

Health Research Program

We collaborate with leading institutions to explore health issues affecting our community and develop culturally informed solutions that improve access and outcomes.

Education Program

Learning builds confidence and independence. Our education programs help individuals strengthen skills, navigate daily life, and stay connected to their community.

Public Benefits Program

Many people donโ€™t know what benefits they qualify for. We help individuals understand, apply for, and access public benefits they are eligible to receive.

Immigration Program

We provide trusted immigration assistance to help individuals and families navigate applications, renewals, and pathways to citizenship with confidence and dignity.

A Year in Review

Responding to community needs

This past year presented both challenges and opportunities. Amid statewide funding uncertainty and rising demand for services, MAFS:

Expanded outreach for public benefits and immigration assistance

Strengthened partnerships with academic and health institutions

Increased access to culturally appropriate nutrition and education programs

Advocated for the protection of the Older Americans Act (OAA)

Through collaboration, resilience, and community trust, MAFS continued to deliver uninterrupted services across all locations.

Community-Centered Research & Innovation

Building Knowledge to Improve Lives

MAFS works alongside universities and public health partners to conduct community-based research focused on aging, mental health, and caregiver support.

These efforts help reduce disparities by ensuring research and services reflect the lived experiences of immigrant seniors and families.
