ASIAAN & Peace of Mind – University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC)
MAFS continued its collaboration with UIC on two major health research initiatives:
ASIAAN (Aging Services Inclusive of Asian American Networks)
Peace of Mind: Dementia Caregiving Research
These projects examined gaps in aging and dementia, related resources for South Asian older adults, and caregivers.

Community resource mapping
Service provider interviews and surveys at MAFS sites
Pilot testing of culturally tailored learning tools
Findings informed the development of Benefits Navigation Toolkits and a Community Resource Map in Hindi, designed to support independent, self-paced learning for older adults and caregivers.

Research methods were intentionally designed to meet participants where they are:
Semi-structured interviews conducted in English and Hindi
Engagement through trusted, community-based platforms
Emphasis on accessibility, cultural relevance, and digital inclusion
Insights gathered from caregivers, service providers, and older adults were used to refine tools and strengthen future program delivery.

As part of the Peace of Mind study, UIC and MAFS hosted a series of virtual caregiver workshops led by occupational therapy experts.
Workshops focused on:
Recognizing early signs of dementia
Managing dementia-related behaviors
Reducing caregiver stress and burnout
Promoting self-care and support systems
Participants reported increased confidence, improved knowledge, and strong interest in continued caregiver-focused research and education.
Culturally tailored research materials developed in Hindi
Caregiver training models evaluated and refined
Strong participation and positive feedback from South Asian caregivers
Research findings directly informed MAFS health and benefits programs
